What do we do at WoMAD?

Planning, Preparing, Performing. We meet every Wednesday evening. These meetings generally consist of one of the following: planning, preparing, and performing or any combination of the three. We spend the second Wednesday of each month volunteering in the community.

Planning Meetings

Although the executive committee has met with certain groups or individuals that might need our help to determine the specific needs, we still need a plan of action of how we might accomplish a task, or who needs to do what, or how to be the most effective and/or productive.

Preparation Meetings

Preparation meetings consist of actually preparing for our project. For instance, we sorted over 1700 donated items for the Road Home Shelter. A log had to be kept for each item and we had to sort the items according to gender, sizes, etc. When we donated a tree for the Festival of Trees, we had several preparation meetings hand painting our ornaments, wiring berries together, etc. We had a great time and realized that some of us were very talented at painting and others clean brushes well.

Projects

This is the time when we actually do the project that we have worked so hard in planning and preparation. These times are not always on Wednesday nights because we have to accommodate those we serve. So it might be a Thursday morning like the time we delivered Thanksgiving dinner to the South Valley Sanctuary. Sometimes the times we meet are less convenient, but they always seem to be the most rewarding, knowing we actually did some good for somebody.

Kickoff and Orientation

We hold a quarterly WoMAD Kickoff to showcase our organization. This allows people who want to know more about our organization to do so. It allows the people we have been telling about WoMAD to come and meet us and find out what we are all about. It also gives them a chance to become a member of WoMAD. Orientation follows Kickoff to orient our new members to the organization and allow all members, new and old, to meet and get acquainted.
